Founded by Portland, Oregon artist/producer Matt Ellsworth in 2013, Sideshow Musicbox approaches the electronic genre with an ear for warmth and delves into an eclectic hybrid; a cinematic fusion that tells stories beyond words.
"I've always imagined Sideshow Musicbox as a sideshow to the chaotic world we live in," says Ellsworth. "The world is a big, crazy circus and Sideshow Musicbox is a magical little thing you may happen to stumble upon, a sideshow of beauty and joy that provides a safe place to dream again."
Ellsworth is a self-taught musician inspired by the work of electronic pioneers Tangerine Dream and Vangelis. "However, I've learned so much from listening to all kinds of music, from metal to world and classical and I think that shows in my work. I played the trumpet in school for a few years, but that's where my formal training ended. I find music the most exciting when I get to play and experiment. Sideshow Musicbox is the result of me doing something about the music that's been coming into my head for as long as I can remember. I'm happy and excited to share the adventure with all that care to listen."
"Sideshow Musicbox continues to evolve," says Ellsworth. "I've learned so much from the first few releases, and I hope as people discover what I've done so far, it will inspire their curiosity for what's to come.
